Meaning
Ancient sages like Vasishta, Garga, Atri, and Parashara, as well as scholars like Varahamihira and Lalla, have expounded upon Hora (predictive astrology) and mathematics. However, in their works, a systematic sequence for determining results (predictions) was not established.

The science of Astrology is vast with many divisions, primarily established on three branches (Skandhas). The first is extensive and called Ganita (Mathematics/Astronomy). The second is Samhita, which is the sole means for understanding phenomena like earthquakes and omens. The third is called Hora, which is for knowing the results arising from the three times (past, present, and future).

First, the benedictory verses are written. Through the pretext of describing the birth times of Sri Rama and Sri Krishna, blessings are invoked.
May Lord Rama protect us. He incarnated on the 9th day (Navami) of the bright half of the Chaitra month, at midday, under the star Pushya, in Cancer Ascendant (Karka Lagna). Jupiter and the Moon were in Cancer; Mars in Capricorn; Mercury in Taurus; the Sun in Aries; Saturn in Libra; Rahu in Virgo; and Venus in Pisces. Five planets were in their exalted positions. This is His birth chart.

Bharata was born under the Pushya star in Pisces Ascendant (Meena Lagna). The twins (Lakshmana and Shatrughna) were born under the serpent star (Ashlesha) in Cancer Ascendant just after sunrise.

The Sun was in Leo (Hari), Jupiter in Cancer, Mars in Capricorn, Venus in Libra, Saturn in Scorpio, and Rahu in Virgo. May that Lord of Gods (Suresh), whose birth chart this is, protect us constantly for a long time.

Meaning
Just as a blind man needs a guiding hand, or a lame man relies on others to move, human effort is indeed shaped by the power of accumulated Karma from the past (Sanchita). Therefore, a wise person acts in accordance with the conduct prescribed by the scriptures.

Meaning
Destiny (Daivam) is the seed, and human effort is the soil, water, and air. When destiny is strong, effort bears fruit; when weak, effort is powerless. Without the seed (destiny), the effort of cultivation is useless, just as watering a place with no tree yields nothing—so say the wise.

Meaning
As stated in the Karma Vipaka (dialogue between Surya and Aruna), even if one is suffering from diseases arising from many past births, one must still perform charity (Dana) and remedial measures. By increasing effort two or three-fold, one attains success.
