Chapter 16: Special Considerations in Female Horoscopes
While all the principles discussed throughout this book apply equally to male and female charts, classical astrology gives specific attention to Strī-Jātaka—the branch dealing with female horoscopes. Ancient authorities such as Brihat Parāśara Hora Shastra, Brihat Jātaka, Phaladeepika and Saravali each devote separate sections to this subject.
The reasoning is not discriminatory; rather, it recognises that physiology, psychology, family responsibilities and social experiences differ for women. These differences create certain outcomes that appear more consistently in female charts, especially in relation to Rahu and Ketu. Although modern perspectives emphasise equality, astrological combinations continue to show distinctive patterns.
This chapter highlights those specific observations.
Onset of Menstrual Cycle
-
Auspicious Constellations
The first menstrual cycle occurring when the Moon transits Rahu’s constellations—Swati or Shatabhisha—or Ketu’s constellations—Ashwini or Moola—is considered favourable. -
During Eclipse
The first menses beginning during a solar or lunar eclipse is traditionally considered inauspicious. -
Sun in Ardra
Menarche occurring while the Sun transits Ardra (a Rahu constellation) is also considered unfavourable.
Marriage and Married Life
-
Intelligent and High-Status Husband
Rahu conjunct Mercury in the 1st or 9th house may bless the woman with a well-educated and accomplished spouse. -
Rahu in the 1st House
May indicate a husband prone to ill-health or weakness. -
Rahu in the 7th House
Can cause delay in marriage, disturbed marital peace, or a partner with complexities. -
Ketu in the 7th House
Often signals marital unhappiness, emotional distance, or separation-like tendencies. -
Rahu in Leo Ascendant
Generally gives a comfortable marriage, depending on supporting factors. -
Afflicted 8th House
If the 8th house or its lord is afflicted by Rahu or Ketu in both the birth chart and the Navamsha, it may indicate an unconventional marriage, or spouse-related complications.
Progeny-Related Indications
-
Rahu in the 5th House (Birth Chart)
If Rahu is in the 5th house but not placed in Saturn’s Navamsha (i.e., not in Capricorn or Aquarius in D9), it may bless the native with many children — the classical Bahuputra Yoga. -
Rahu in Saturn’s Navamsha in D9
If Rahu occupies Saturn-ruled Navamsha in the Navamsha chart, it may lead to loss of children or childlessness. -
Rahu in the 10th House
Indicates limited number of children. -
Ketu in the 9th House
Usually favours many children or strong progeny potential. -
Ketu in the 5th House
Under malefic influence may indicate childlessness, miscarriages or loss of children. -
Rahu in the 1st House (Afflicted or Debilitated)
If Rahu is debilitated or heavily afflicted in the ascendant, it may cause the birth of a stillborn child.
Sexual Desires and Relationships
-
Venus–Mars–Node Combination
When Venus and Mars combine with either Rahu or Ketu, it can create immoral relationships, heightened sexuality or uncontrolled desires. -
Venus with Rahu in the 5th House
May indicate same-sex attraction or homosexual tendencies. -
Ketu in the 7th House (Afflicted)
Creates strong sexual appetite, dissatisfaction or irregular sexual behaviour. -
Ketu in the 1st House
Promotes sexual indulgence and restless sensual desires. -
Rahu in the 10th House
May produce disturbance due to sexual urges or reputation-related complications.
Sexual and Reproductive Diseases
-
Ascendant Lord in the 8th with Rahu
May cause ovarian disorders or chronic reproductive complications. -
Rahu in the Ascendant + Mandi/Gulik in a Trine + Mars–Saturn in the 8th
This combination may also produce ovarian disease or severe gynaecological issues. -
Rahu with Mars or Saturn
Can lead to venereal diseases or infections. -
Ketu in the 6th House (Afflicted)
Indicates venereal problems, infections or chronic ailments.
Note:
Upagrahas (Gulik, Mandi etc.) are nine calculated shadow points—always malefic—used by ancient astrologers to assess hidden afflictions.
Widowhood or Serious Separation
The following classical combinations may indicate widowhood or separation if strongly present and unaided by benefic influences:
-
Rahu + Saturn + Mars in the 7th House
A severe combination often linked to loss of spouse. -
Rahu in the 8th House +
7th lord positioned with Saturn and aspected by Mars and Moon.
Indicates extreme stress on marital longevity. -
Rahu in the 7th House + 7th lord with Sun + aspect of 8th lord
Suggests marital break, separation or widowhood. -
Taurus or Libra Ascendant
Rahu in the 7th house without benefic aspects becomes a strong indicator of widowhood.
Conclusion
Although this chapter lists certain sensitive combinations, it must be emphasised that:
- No single yoga determines destiny.
- Benefic aspects, strengths of planets, Navamsha improvements and favourable dashas can neutralise or reverse negative tendencies.
- Many women with these combinations lead happy, prosperous, fulfilling lives.
These guidelines help in deeper analysis, not in creating fear. As with every principle in Vedic astrology, the final judgment must always be based on the entire chart, not isolated combinations.
