Chapter 24: Lābha & Āya Bhava Phala

The Eleventh House: Gains, Elder Siblings & Fulfillment of Desires

The 11th House, called Lābha Sthāna or Āya Bhava, represents the fruits of one’s karma. If the 10th house is the tree of actions, the 11th house is the harvest. It is the house of profit, friends, achievements, and realization of one’s desires.

This is one of the most auspicious houses in the horoscope, and planets placed here tend to become beneficent—granting wealth, success, and social prosperity.

1. The Significance of Labha Bhava

The ancient text attributes the following domains to this house:

A. Wealth & Income (Lābha)

Salary, business profit, bonuses, and all forms of material gains.

B. Elder Siblings (Agraja/Agraja)

Health, status, and relationship with elder brothers and sisters.

C. Friends & Social Circle (Mitra Mandala)

Quality of friendships and support from society.

D. Fulfillment of Desires (Abhīṣṭa Siddhi)

The ability to achieve hopes, long-term goals, and ambitions.

E. Body Part

Left ear, calves, and ankles.

Because it is an Upachaya Bhava, the 11th house improves with age, granting higher income and success later in life.

2. Results of Planets in the Eleventh House

The 11th House is special: almost every planet gives financial gains here, even natural malefics.

Venus The Luxurious Benefactor. Gains through art, beauty, women, luxury goods, vehicles, cinema, and jewelry. Romantic and socially active.
Saturn The Enduring Wealth. Slow but steady accumulation. Gains through labor, agriculture, machinery, or mass influence. Very loyal to long-term friends. Enhances longevity.
Rahu The Sudden Winner. Lottery, speculation, foreign connections, or secret deals bring wealth. Very shrewd in financial matters.
Ketu The Detached Gainer. Gains come mysteriously or spiritually. May not care for wealth or may donate large sums. Income arises through unusual or mystical sources.

3. The Bādhaka (Obstruction) Principle

The classical text introduces a crucial and often overlooked rule:

For Movable Signs (Chara Lagnas):

The 11th House becomes the Bādhaka Sthāna (House of Obstruction).

A. Dhana Yoga (Wealth Combination)

  • 2nd Lord (Savings) and

  • 11th Lord (Income)

are in mutual exchange or conjunction,
the native becomes exceptionally wealthy.

B. Nirdhana Yoga (Poverty)

If the 11th Lord is placed in:

  • 12th House (Loss) or

  • 6th House (Debt)

the person earns but cannot retain wealth—constant leakage.

5. Translator’s Commentary (Dr. U. S. Pulippani)

“The 11th House is the incoming water;
the 2nd House is the stored water.
A strong 11th with a weak 2nd means the wealth flows in—but flows out just as quickly.”

He further warns:

  • The 11th is 6th from the 6th, meaning:

    • chronic diseases,

    • stubborn illnesses,

    • long-term medical conditions
      may result if the house is overly activated.

Thus, the same energy that increases wealth can also increase disease, depending on planetary influences.
