Chapter 26: Graha Drishti Phala
The Results of Planetary Aspects
Having studied the Houses and the effects of planets occupying them, the author now introduces a deeper layer of prediction: Graha Drishti—the influence planets exert on houses they do not occupy.
In Vedic astrology, a planet’s “look” (Drishti) can uplift, distort, or completely transform the house it touches.
1. The Universal Law of Aspects
The text begins with the foundational rule:
All nine planets cast a full (100%) aspect on the 7th House from their position.
This is the opposition aspect.
It represents confrontation, reflection, and full impact.
-
Example:
If the Sun sits in the 1st House (Lagna), it fully aspects the 7th House (Marriage), infusing it with its brightness, ego, and heat.
This single principle forms the backbone of predictive astrology.
2. Vishesha Drishti — Special Aspects of Mars, Jupiter & Saturn
Unlike the other planets, three have extra glances—unique lines of influence that significantly change fate.
These are called Vishesha Drishti (Special or Exclusive Aspects).
Mars (Kuja) — 4th & 8th Special Aspects
Nature: Aggressive & Cutting
| Aspect | Meaning | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| 4th | Emotional Core (Home, Heart) | Creates tension, conflict, or sudden events at home. |
| 8th | Longevity, Secrets | The “killer glance” — causes accidents, surgeries, or crises. |
Mars’ aspect burns whatever it touches, creating urgency, anger, and action.
Jupiter (Guru) — 5th & 9th Special Aspects
Nature: Divine, Nourishing, Protective
| Aspect | Meaning | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| 5th | Children, Intelligence | Enhances creativity, memory, and learning. |
| 9th | Dharma, Luck | Grants divine protection, prosperity & father’s blessings. |
Wherever Jupiter looks, that house prospers—even if empty.
His aspect is called Amrita Drishti (Nectar Vision).
Saturn (Sani) — 3rd & 10th Special Aspects
Nature: Cold, Restrictive, Karmic
| Aspect | Meaning | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| 3rd | Courage, Siblings | Cuts confidence; delays success; tests willpower. |
| 10th | Career, Karma | Imposes heavy responsibilities; creates slow, steady success or karmic pressure. |
Saturn’s aspect is often more damaging than its placement.
Saturn in 12th may be okay, but Saturn’s 3rd/10th glance can crush morale or career.
3. Subha & Papa Drishti
(Benefic vs. Malefic Glances)
The nature of the planet determines the nature of its aspect.
Subha Drishti (Auspicious Aspect)
Cast by: Jupiter & Venus
-
Heals afflicted houses
-
Brings opportunities, relationships, wealth
-
Revives weak planets
-
Cancels Doshas
Example:
Even Rahu in the 5th loses its poison if Jupiter aspects it.
Papa Drishti (Inauspicious Aspect)
Cast by: Saturn, Mars, Sun
-
Creates obstacles
-
Causes delays, humiliation, or loss
-
Damages relationships
-
Harms health or finances
Example:
Saturn aspecting the 2nd House destroys wealth even if placed elsewhere.
4. The Strength of Special Aspects
These aspects have full (100%) strength:
-
Mars → 4th and 8th
-
Jupiter → 5th and 9th
-
Saturn → 3rd and 10th
Partial aspects are noted in classical texts but play a secondary role in prediction.
Rahu & Ketu do not have classical aspects in this text, though some modern schools assign them trinal aspects (5th/9th).
5. Translator’s Commentary (Dr. U. S. Pulippani)
“Of all the planetary glances, Jupiter’s Aspect is supreme.
Guru Drishti Koti Dosha-Nāshana —
The glance of Jupiter destroys ten million afflictions.”
He emphasizes:
-
Always check if:
-
a weak planet is aspected by Jupiter → it becomes strong
-
a strong house is aspected by Saturn → results are delayed or denied
-
Pulippani adds:
“Saturn’s aspect is a karmic whip; Jupiter’s aspect is divine grace.”
Summary of Chapter 26
-
7th aspect is universal to all planets.
-
Mars: Destroys/provokes (4th & 8th).
-
Jupiter: Blesses/protects (5th & 9th).
-
Saturn: Delays/restricts (3rd & 10th).
-
Subha Drishti (Jupiter/Venus) heals.
-
Papa Drishti (Saturn/Mars/Sun) harms.
Golden Rule:
A good aspect can save a bad house;
a bad aspect can ruin a good house.
