Chapter 34: Ravi Daśā Phala
Results of the Sun’s Major Period
Duration: 6 Years
Governs: Authority, Father, Government, Reputation, Fire, Separation
The Sun (Ravi) represents the King, the Soul, and the central authority in the horoscope. When his period (Daśā) operates, the native enters a phase of heightened visibility, responsibility, and karmic heat. This period can elevate a person to power—but also scorch weak parts of life if the Sun is afflicted.
1. General Effects of Sun Daśā
The text describes the overall atmosphere of these six years:
🔥 Increased Activity & Wandering
The native may travel frequently—especially to forests, hills, temples, remote lands, and natural environments. Internally, too, there is a search for purpose and direction.
👑 Rise in Authority
-
Favor from the government or superiors
-
Promotions
-
Leadership roles
-
Command over others
The Sun illuminates the native’s path with clarity and ambition.
🩺 Health & Heat Disorders
As the Sun governs Pitta (heat), the native may suffer from:
-
Fevers
-
Eye disorders (Netra Roga)
-
Headaches
-
Dental issues
-
Gastric fire imbalance
💔 Separation & Ego Conflicts
The Sun stands alone in the sky.
Thus, during his period:
-
Relations with spouse or children may become strained
-
The native may live away from family
-
Ego clashes with father or authority figures may arise
2. Results Based on Solar Strength
The outcome of Ravi Daśā depends strongly on the dignity of the Sun.
| Condition of the Sun | Results in Daśā |
|---|---|
| 🌟 Strong Sun (Exalted in Aries, Own Sign Leo, or in 10th/11th) | Royal Rise. The native gains status, fame, and unshakeable courage. Government blessings, financial rise through authority, and victory over enemies. |
| 🌑 Weak Sun (Debilitated in Libra, or placed in 6/8/12) | Fall from Grace. Loss of position, humiliation by superiors, father’s ill health, eye or heart ailments, and diminished vitality. |
3. Antardaśā (Sub-Periods) Under Sun Daśā
Each sub-period adds a layer of nuance. The ancient text gives clear, vivid predictions.
1. Sun–Sun (3 months 18 days)
Authority increases, but so does internal heat. Irritation, headaches, and family tensions are common.
2. Sun–Moon (6 months)
One of the best phases.
Brings royal favor, prosperity, resolution of old troubles, and emotional fulfillment.

Sudden setbacks
-
Snake/poison related fears
-
Mental anxiety
-
Fall from position or reputation
5. Sun–Jupiter (9 months 18 days)
The Golden Window.
Health improves, wealth grows, spiritual progress occurs, and a son may be born. Deep respect from elders.
6. Sun–Saturn (11 months 12 days)
Classic Father–Son Conflict.
Loss of wealth, spouse’s suffering, conflict with subordinates, and heavy responsibilities.
7. Sun–Mercury (10 months 6 days)
Success in education, writing, communication, or commerce.
Caution: Skin disorders or nervous issues.
8. Sun–Ketu (4 months 6 days)
Detachment, loss of interest in worldly affairs, separation from family, unusual illnesses.
Growing interest in mantra, tantra, or moksha.
9. Sun–Venus (1 year)
Profits, perfumes, garments, and comforts.
But Venus suffers combustion:
-
Strained marital relationships
-
Excess passion or conflicts with women
4. Translator’s Commentary (Dr. U. S. Pulippani)
“Sun Daśā is powerful but not always comfortable.”
• For those born in Kṛttikā, Uttara Phālgunī, or Uttarāṣāḍhā, the Sun becomes the first or second daśā.
• If experienced in childhood: High fevers but sharp intelligence.
• If experienced in middle age (40–50): The career peaks, provided the Sun has dignity.
• “Observe the Sun’s relation with the Moon. A harmonious Sun–Moon ensures stability. A hostile Sun–Moon creates identity conflicts.”
