Chapter 37: Rāhu Daśā Phala

 Results of Rāhu’s Major Period

Duration: 18 Years
Domains: Illusion, Ambition, Foreign Lands, Sudden Events, Poison, Shadows

Rāhu is the Chāyā Graha—the shadow planet. It has no body, only appetite. Its daśā is the longest among the malefics and often becomes the defining era of a person’s life, pulling them beyond the familiar into the mysterious and the forbidden. Rāhu gives everything fast—fame, money, relationships—but seldom gives peace.

1. General Outcomes of Rāhu Daśā

The text describes Rāhu as the master of Māyā—illusion, confusion, desire, and deception.

  • The Mimic:
Rāhu imitates the planet ruling the sign it occupies (Dispositor), and behaves like Saturn (Śanivad Rāhu).

  • Rise and Fall:
He may lift the native suddenly to great heights, only to pull them down if arrogance or unethical behavior appears.

  • Foreign Influence:
This is the era of foreign travel, foreign languages, and relationships with outsiders (Mlecchas). Migration is common.

  • Health:
Undiagnosable diseases, allergies, psychosomatic disturbances, skin diseases, poisoning, or snake-related fears.

Overall, Rāhu daśā is the period of breaking norms and entering new realities.

2. Results Based on Placement of Rāhu

Condition of Rāhu Results
Strong Rāhu (Taurus, Gemini, Aquarius, or in Upacayas—3rd/6th/10th/11th) The Politician. Immense material success, shrewd leadership, foreign connections, sudden wealth, and popularity among unconventional groups. Advantage in modern fields: technology, cinema, photography, politics, espionage.
Weak Rāhu (Scorpio, Sagittarius, 8th, or 12th) The Outcast. Fear of supernatural forces, scandals, hallucinations, loss of status, imprisonment, food poisoning, or association with wicked people.

4. Translator’s Commentary (Dr. U. S. Pulippani)

“If Rāhu is in 3, 6, or 11, the daśā becomes unusually beneficial.”

Dr. Pulippani gives two crucial rules:

  1. Rāhu in Upacayas (3/6/11) → Victory, wealth, and rise, regardless of sign.

  2. Check the Dispositor:

    • If Rāhu is in Virgo, Mercury decides the daśā results.

    • If Rāhu is in Taurus, Venus decides the outcome.

    • If the dispositor is strong, Rāhu daśā becomes a golden age.

Rāhu himself is only a magnifier of the planet behind him.
