Among all the nine planetary periods, the Daśā of Śukra (Venus) is the longest and one of the most desired. Venus is the Āsura-Guru—the Teacher of the Asuras—yet for human beings he is the significator of happiness, sensual enjoyment, love, and worldly comforts. His twenty-year period often becomes the “Golden Age” of material life.

If Ketu Daśā empties the cup, Venus Daśā fills it again—with beauty, affection, wealth, and pleasure.


1. General Results of Venus Daśā

The text paints Venus’s period as a Festival of Enjoyment (Bhoga Mahotsava).

1. Venus–Venus (3 years, 4 months)

The Awakening of Pleasure.

  • Beauty, wealth, jewelry

  • Marriage or improved marital happiness

  • Vehicles, clothes, perfumes

  • Peaceful mind and artistic blossoming

This is the purest expression of Venus.


2. Venus–Sun (1 year)

The Friction.
Sun is an enemy to Venus.

  • Headaches, eye troubles

  • Conflict with father or government

  • Ego clashes in relationships
    Yet, status and recognition may increase.


3. Venus–Moon (1 year, 8 months)

The Romance.

  • Emotional happiness

  • Birth of a daughter

  • Gains of pearls, milk, white clothes

  • Success in agriculture or textile work

This is one of the sweetest sub-periods.


4. Venus–Mars (1 year, 2 months)

Passion Mixed with Fire.

  • Intense attraction, possible affairs

  • Loss of wealth through hasty actions

  • Danger of theft or burns

  • But: Good opportunities for acquiring land or property

Venus + Mars increases desire and impulsiveness.


5. Venus–Rahu (3 years)

The Obsession.
A dangerous yet materially profitable period.

  • The mind prepares for the next cycle (Sun Daśā)

The glitter of Venus slowly dissolves into Ketu’s introspection.


4. Translator’s Commentary (Dr. U. S. Pulippani)

“In Venus Daśā, sweetness turns into sugar—and sugar into disease.”

Venus rules kidneys, glands, and insulin balance.

  • If Venus is afflicted, diabetes (Madhumeha) often appears.

  • Excessive sexual or sensory indulgence weakens reproductive tissues.

  • Moderation is essential:
    “Too much Bhoga becomes Roga.”

Pulippani also notes that the true enjoyment of Venus Daśā is experienced best when the native follows Sattvic pleasures—beauty, art, music, family harmony—rather than indulgence.
