The Nakshatras

Chapter 7: Rahu, Ketu & The Gandmool Concept
"The Zodiac contains 27 Nakshatras (Lunar Mansions), each occupying 13°20′. While signs (Rashis) often take precedence in modern readings, the birth Nakshatra holds the deepest key to the soul's blueprint."

Originally, Vedic astrology was based entirely on Nakshatras. Though the focus later shifted to signs, Nakshatras remain crucial—especially the Birth Nakshatra (Moon) and the Lagna Nakshatra. In this chapter, we analyze the stars governed by the Nodes.

III. The Gandmool Concept

Gandmool Dosha occurs at the sensitive junction (Sandhi) where a water sign ends and a fire sign begins—specifically where Mercury’s Nakshatras end and Ketu’s Nakshatras begin.

There are six Gandmool Nakshatras. Of these, Moola, Jyeshtha, and Ashlesha are considered the most inauspicious.

Results by Charan (Pada)

Ashwini Bad for Father Prosperity High Status State Honors
Magha Bad for Mother Bad for Father Wealth Financial Gain
Moola Loss to Father Loss to Mother Financial Loss Financial Gain

Jyeshtha Trouble to Elder Bro Trouble to Younger Bro Trouble to Mother Trouble to Self
Revati Honors Authority Comforts Sorrow filled life
Gandmool Shanti (Remedies)

The author advises that Gandmool Dosha should not cause unnecessary fear. Performing the Shanti Puja is sufficient to neutralize the effects.

  • For Moola, Jyeshtha, Ashlesha: Perform Shanti 27 days after birth (when the Nakshatra returns). Traditionally, the father avoids seeing the child until this is done.
  • For Ashwini, Magha, Revati: Shanti can be done on the 10th or 19th day, or under any Nakshatra ruled by the same planet.

If missed during childhood, the Shanti can be performed on a later birthday under the correct Nakshatra.
