Chapter Eight: The Results of the Lunar Days (Tithis)
1. Pratipada (1st Day)
१. प्रतिपद्दिवसे जातस्त्रिदिनं च निमासकम् ।
जीवितः स न्महातेजाः वर्षाशीतिचिरायुषः ॥

Pratipad-divase jaatas-tridinam cha nimaasakam.
Jeevitah sa mahaa-tejaah varsha-asheeti-chira-aayushah.

Meaning
One born on the first lunar day (Pratipada) faces danger for the first three days or months. If he survives that, he becomes very radiant and lives a long life of eighty years.
2. Dvitiya (2nd Day)
२. द्वितीयादिवसे जातो नरः सत्यवचा भवेत् ।
जनानन्दकरः श्लाघ्यो स्वकर्मनिरतः सदा ॥

Dviteeyaa-divase jaato narah satya-vachaa bhavet.

Meaning
One born on the second lunar day (Dvitiya) will be truthful, a delight to the people, praiseworthy, and always dedicated to his own duties.
3. Tritiya (3rd Day)
३. तृतीयायां नरो जातः स्त्रीलोलः कृपणश्चलः ।
व्रतोपवासनिरतो मूर्वो वादी बलान्वितः ॥

Triteeyaayaam naro jaatah stree-lolah kripanash-chalah.

Meaning
One born on the third lunar day (Tritiya) will be desirous of women, miserly, and fickle. He will observe vows and fasts, but may be foolish, argumentative, and strong.
4. Chaturthi (4th Day)
४. चतुर्थ्यां तु नरो जातो लुब्धः पिशुनवाक् भवेत् ।
चण्डः साहसिकः शूरश्चलचित्तः सुखान्वितः ॥

Chaturthyaam tu naro jaato lubdhah pishuna-vaak bhavet.
Chandah saahasikah shuurash-chala-chittah sukha-anvitah.

Meaning
One born on the fourth lunar day (Chaturthi) will be greedy and a talebearer (slanderer). He will be fierce, adventurous (rash), brave, fickle-minded, yet happy.
5. Panchami (5th Day)
५. पञ्चम्यां तु नरो जातो मानी दीर्घायुषो भवेत् ।
महामतिः स्थिरः शूरः सत्यवादी जितेन्द्रियः ॥

Panchamyaam tu naro jaato maanee deergha-aayusho bhavet.

Meaning
One born on the fifth lunar day (Panchami) will be honorable and long-lived. He will be highly intelligent, steady, brave, truthful, and have control over his senses.
6. Shasthi (6th Day)
६. षष्ठ्यां चैव नरो जातो व्रणांकिततनुः स्थिरः ।
स्त्रीलोलुपोऽतिसुभगो विद्या कीर्ति परो भवेत् ॥

Shashthyaam chaiva naro jaato vrana-ankita-tanuh sthirah.

Meaning
One born on the sixth lunar day (Shasthi) will have a body marked by scars or wounds and be firm in nature. He will be very fond of women, very fortunate, and dedicated to learning and fame.
7. Saptami (7th Day)
७. सप्तम्यां जायते मर्त्यो धनवान् गुणवान् भवेत् ।
गुरुदेवार्चनपरः सदाचारो दृढव्रतः ॥

Saptamyaam jaayate martyo dhanavaan gunavaan bhavet.
Guru-deva-archana-parah sadaa-chaaro dridha-vratah.

Meaning
One born on the seventh lunar day (Saptami) will be wealthy and virtuous. He will be devoted to worshipping the Guru and God, have good conduct, and be firm in his vows.
8. Ashtami (8th Day)
८. अष्टम्यां तु नरो जातः स्वदारनिरतो भवेत् ।
बहुभाषोऽति चपलो चित्तोऽतीवरः च निष्ठरः ॥

Ashtamyaam tu naro jaatah sva-daara-nirato bhavet.
Bahu-bhaasho-ati chapalo chitto-atee-varah cha nishthurah.

Meaning
One born on the eighth lunar day (Ashtami) will be devoted to his own wife. He will be talkative, have a very fickle mind, be prominent (or superior), but also harsh.
9. Navami (9th Day)
९. कामलुब्धो महाशूरो गीतनृत्यरतस्तथा ।
शत्रुघ्नश्च महाक्रोधी नवम्यां जायते नरः ॥

Kaama-lubdho mahaa-shuro geeta-nritya-ratas-tathaa.
Shatrughnash-cha mahaa-krodhee navamyaam jaayate narah.

Meaning
One born on the ninth lunar day (Navami) will be greedy for lust, a great warrior, fond of music and dance, a destroyer of enemies, and very prone to anger.
10. Dashami (10th Day)
१०. दशम्यां तु नरो जातः स्त्रीजितोऽस्त्रव्रणांकितः ।
शुचिरत्यन्तसुभगश्चलचित्तो महामतिः ॥

Dashamyaam tu naro jaatah stree-jito-astra-vrana-ankitah.

Meaning
One born on the tenth lunar day (Dashami) will be controlled by women and marked by weapon scars. He will be pure, extremely fortunate, fickle-minded, and highly intelligent.
11. Ekadashi (11th Day)
११. एकादश्यां च जनितो लोकव्यापारकोविदः ।
कालशास्त्रेऽतिकुशलः सत्यवादी दृढव्रतः ॥

Ekaadashyaam cha janito loka-vyaapaara-kovidah.
Kalaa-shaastre-ati-kushalah satya-vaadee dridha-vratah.

Meaning
One born on the eleventh lunar day (Ekadashi) will be an expert in worldly business/affairs. He will be very skilled in arts (or the science of time), truthful, and firm in his vows.
12. Dvadashi (12th Day)
१२. द्वादश्यां च नरो जातः सदाचारोऽतिदुःसहः ।
सुभगो रतिलोलश्च वस्त्रभोजनतत्परः ॥

Dvaadashyaam cha naro jaatah sadaa-chaaro-ati-duhsahah.
Subhago rati-lolash-cha vastra-bhojana-tatparah.

Meaning
One born on the twelfth lunar day (Dvadashi) will have good conduct but be difficult to withstand (intolerant of insults). He will be fortunate, fond of pleasure (Rati), and keen on clothes and food.
13. Trayodashi (13th Day)
१३. त्रयोदश्यां नरो जातः स्त्रीजितो ज्ञानवान् भवेत् ।
व्रतोपवासनिरतः स्वशत्रुर्मतिमान् गुणी ॥
व्रतोपवासनिरतः स्वशत्रुर्मतिमान् गुणी ॥
Trayodashyaam naro jaatah stree-jito gyaanavaan bhavet.
Vrato-pavasa-niratah sva-shatrur-matimaan gunee.

Meaning
One born on the thirteenth lunar day (Trayodashi) will be controlled by women but wise. He will observe fasts and vows, may have enemies among his own people (or be his own enemy), and be intelligent and virtuous.
14. Chaturdashi (14th Day)
१४. चतुर्दश्यां नरो जातः सुशुद्धः सर्वकर्मसु ।
बुद्धिमान् व्रतनिर्मुक्तस्सदा बन्धुरतो भवेत् ॥
बुद्धिमान् व्रतनिर्मुक्तस्सदा बन्धुरतो भवेत् ॥
Chaturdashyaam naro jaatah sushuddhah sarva-karmasu.
Buddhimaan vrata-nirmuktas-sadaa bandhu-rato bhavet.

Meaning
One born on the fourteenth lunar day (Chaturdashi) will be very pure in all his actions, intelligent, free from (rigid) vows, and always attached to his relatives.
15. Purnima (Full Moon)
१५. पौर्णमास्यां नरो जातः पूर्णाङ्गः सुस्थिरो भवेत् ।
सदा हृष्टमनाः कामी सुभगोऽतिरणान्वितः ॥
सदा हृष्टमनाः कामी सुभगोऽतिरणान्वितः ॥
Paurnamaasyaam naro jaatah puurna-angah susthiro bhavet.
Sadaa hrishta-manaah kaamee subhago-ati-rana-anvitah.

Meaning
One born on the Full Moon day (Purnima) will have a perfect/complete body and be very steady. He will always be happy-minded, lustful, fortunate, and very valorous (or involved in battle).
16. Amavasya (New Moon)
१६. अमायां तु नरो जातः इन्द्रियातिगुतः सुखी ।
सुभगो बलहीनश्च वित्तेन बहुनाऽऽकुलः ॥
सुभगो बलहीनश्च वित्तेन बहुनाऽऽकुलः ॥
Amaayaam tu naro jaatah indriya-atigutah sukhee.
Subhago bala-heenash-cha vittena bahunaa-aakulah.

Meaning
One born on the New Moon day (Amavasya) will be secretive (his senses hidden), happy, and fortunate. However, he may be physically weak and overwhelmed (or agitated) by much wealth.
॥ इति श्रीजातकसारदीपे तिथिफलाध्यायः अष्टमः ॥
Iti Sri-Jataka-Sara-Deepe Tithi-phala-adhyaayah ashtamah.
