Chapter Five: The Results of the Seasons
1. Shishira Ritu (Late Winter)
१. शिशिरे जायते मर्यो बलसौख्यचिरायुषः ।
मिष्टान्नाशी शुभाचारो दन्तरोगी प्रजायते ॥
Shishire jaayate martyo bala-saukhya-chira-aayushah.
Mishta-anna-aashee shubha-aachaaro danta-rogee prajaayate.
Meaning One born in the Shishira season (Late Winter) will be strong, happy, and long-lived. He will be fond of sweet food, have good conduct, but will suffer from dental diseases.
2. Vasanta Ritu (Spring)
२. सुखी भोगी गुणी कान्तः सत्यव्यसनकृद् (वान्भः) भवेत् ।
वसंतौं नरो जातः दान कीर्ति करो वरः ॥
Sukhee bhogee gunee kaantah satya-vyasana-krid (vaan-bhah) bhavet.
Vasantau naro jaatah daana keerti karo varah.
Meaning One born in the Vasanta season (Spring) will be happy, an enjoyer of pleasures, virtuous, handsome, and dedicated to truth. He will be charitable, famous, and excellent among men.
3. Grishma Ritu (Summer)
३. वापी कूप तडागादि देवालय कृद् भवेत् ।
शास्त्र विज्ञानदाता च ग्रीष्मतौं जायते नरः ॥
Vaapee kuupa tadaaga-adi devalaya krid bhavet.
Shaastra vigyaana-daataa cha greeshma-tau jaayate narah.
Meaning One born in the Grishma season (Summer) will be a builder of step-wells, wells, ponds, and temples. He will be a disseminator of scriptural knowledge and science.
4. Varsha Ritu (Monsoon)
४. देशग्राम पुराध्यक्षः कृषिकर्ता भवेत्सदा ।
शास्त्रसंग्रहणे दक्षः वर्षाजातो भवेन्नरः ॥
Desha-graama pura-adhyakshah krishi-kartaa bhavet-sadaa.
Shaastra-samgrahane dakshah varshaa-jaato bhaven-narah.
Meaning One born in the Varsha season (Monsoon) will be a headman of a country, village, or city. He will always be engaged in agriculture and will be skilled in collecting and compiling scriptures.
5. Sharad Ritu (Autumn)
५. व्यापारकुशलो मन्त्री ज्वररोग विवर्जितः ।
पण्डितो गुणवान् धीरः शरदृतौ (ज्जातो) नरो भवेत् ॥
Vyaapaara-kushalo mantree jvara-roga vivarjitah.
Pandito gunavaan dheerah sharad-ritau (jjaato) naro bhavet.
Meaning One born in the Sharad season (Autumn) will be skilled in trade/business and may become a minister. He will be free from fevers and diseases, learned, virtuous, and courageous.
6. Hemanta Ritu (Early Winter)
६. सौधागर निवासी च धर्मिष्टः सत्यवाक् शुचिः ।
मुज्जते मिष्टमाहार नरो हेमन्त संभवः ॥
Saudha-aagara nivaasee cha dharmishtah satya-vaak shuchih.
Bhunjate* mishtam-aahaara naro hemanta sambhavah.
Meaning One born in the Hemanta season (Early Winter) will reside in a mansion or palace. He will be righteous, truthful, pure, and fond of eating sweet foods.
*Note: 'mujjate' in original text is likely a scribal error for 'bhunjate' meaning 'eats/enjoys'.
॥ इति श्रीजातकसारदीपे ऋतु फलाध्यायः पञ्चमः ॥
Iti Sri-Jataka-Sara-Deepe Ritu phala-adhyaayah panchamah.
