Chapter Nine: The Results of the Weekdays (Vara)

1. Sunday (Surya Vasara)

१. स्थिरः प्रचण्डः शूरस्तु रक्तश्यामतनुः शुचिः ।
पित्ताधिकोऽति चतुरो जायते सूर्यवासरे ॥

Sthirah prachandah shuurastu rakta-shyaama-tanuh shuchih.
Pitta-adhiko-ati chaturo jaayate surya-vaasare.

Meaning One born on Sunday is steady, fierce, brave, has a reddish-dark complexion, is pure, has a predominance of bile (Pitta temperament), and is very clever.

2. Monday (Soma Vasara)

२. सोमवारे नरो जातः सात्विकः क्षयवृद्धिमान् ।
ह्रस्वकायोऽतिगौरश्च पृथुवक्षाः सुबुद्धिमान् ॥

Soma-vaare naro jaatah saattvikah kshaya-vriddhimaan.
Hrasva-kaayo-ati-gaurash-cha prithu-vakshaah subuddhimaan.

Meaning One born on Monday is Sattvic (pure/peaceful), experiences waxing and waning (fluctuation in wealth or mood), has a short body, is very fair, has a broad chest, and is very intelligent.

3. Tuesday (Bhauma Vasara)

३. क्षत्रवृत्ति समायुक्तो जायते भौमवासरे ।
रक्तायताक्षो लोलश्च वाग्यतो मधुरोऽक्षमी ॥

Kshatra-vritti samaayukto jaayate bhauma-vaasare.
Rakta-aayata-aksho lolash-cha vaag-yato madhuro-kshamee.

Meaning One born on Tuesday possesses a martial or warrior nature (Kshatra-vritti), has large reddish eyes, is fickle (restless), controlled in speech yet sweet, but is intolerant (unforgiving).

4. Wednesday (Budha Vasara)

४. निपुणोऽति वृत्तशिरः पादश्चैव तथा कविः ।
रूपवान्मतिचापल्यो जनितो बुधवासरे ॥

Nipuno-ati vritta-shirah paadash-chaiva tathaa kavih.
Ruupavaan-mati-chaapalyo janito budha-vaasare.

Meaning One born on Wednesday is very skillful, has a round head and feet, is a poet, handsome, and possesses a fickle (quick-moving) mind.

5. Thursday (Guru Vasara)

५. सुधीः सन्बहुलोकज्ञः कालशास्त्रविदः शुचिः ।
प्रगल्भो कुशलो धीरः संभवेद् गुरुवासरे ॥

Sudheeh san-bahu-lokagyah kaala-shaastra-vidah shuchih.
Pragalbho kushalo dheerah sambhaved guru-vaasare.

Meaning One born on Thursday is wise, knowledgeable about many worlds (or people), an expert in the science of Time (Astrology), pure, confident, skillful, and courageous.

6. Friday (Shukra Vasara)

६. प्रकृष्ट कार्यः सुमतिर्जातः शुक्रस्य वासरे ।
सुधीः सद्वाक्त्रिलोकज्ञः कलाशास्त्रविदः शुचिः ॥

Prakrishta kaaryah sumatir-jaatah shukrasya vaasare.
Sudheeh sad-vaak-trilokagyah kalaa-shaastra-vidah shuchih.

Meaning One born on Friday performs excellent deeds, has a good mind, is intelligent, speaks pleasant words, knows the three worlds (is worldly-wise), is an expert in arts and sciences, and is pure.

7. Saturday (Shani Vasara)

७. रूक्षदुर्बलदेहश्च मलिनोऽतिचलः खलः ।
रौद्र क्रोधपरो नित्यं जनितः शनि वासरे ॥

Ruuksha-durbala-dehash-cha malino-ati-chalah khalah.
Raudra krodha-paro nityam janitah shani vaasare.

Meaning One born on Saturday has a rough and weak body, is unclean, very fickle, wicked, terrible in nature, and always prone to anger.

Iti Sri-Jataka-Sara-Deepe Vaara-phala-adhyaayo navamah.
